Deciphering Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan Space Marine Transfer Sheet 2023
With the new Warhammer 40K Leviathan boxset we take a look at the new Space Marine transfers sheet provided in the boxset. It is pretty straight forward and veteran space marine players will recognize the icons on this sheet quite easily. This is for those of you out there not that familiar with the symbols.
First up is the popular boys in blue, the Ultramarines. From left to right; the "U" symbols are for the regular marines. The middle band is for the Sternguard Veteran Squad. The triangle shapes are the Devastator marking for the Infernus Squad. The slighter larger "U" symbols are meant for the Terminator Squad. The end column of icons are for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts.
Next we take a look at the Icons of the Dark Angels chapter. From left to right; markings for the regular marines models, including the characters. The red wing symbols are the "DeathWing" and are reserved for the Terminator Squad models including characters. The red bursts icons are for the Infernus Squad. The end column of icons are for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts.
Blood Angels are up next and working left to right; the wing symbol is meant for the regular sized models (characters included) with the yellow denoting sergeant marking. The skull and blood drop symbols are for the Infernus Squad. The slightly larger wing icons are for the Terminator Squad & characters. The end column of icons are for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts.
The next icons are for the Space Wolves chapter of space marines. From left to right; squad and character markings. Larger wolf symbol is reserved for the Terminator Squad as well as the characters. Next to the larger wolf heads are various other runes and icons used for this chapter. The end column of icons are for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts.
Raven Guard space marines are the chapter to use a raven as their icon. From left to right; various regular marines and characters. Next to that are for Infernus Squad as well as the Sternguard Veteran Squad. The larger bird icons are for the Terminator Squad and characters. The end column of icons are for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts.
The last chapter to look at is the Imperial Fists space marine chapter. Left to right; the smaller fists shapes are for the squads of regular marines as well as the characters. The crosses and triangles are for the Sternguard Veteran Squad and Infernus Squads. the larger fist symbols are for the Terminator Squad and characters. The end column of icons are for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts.
This grouping is for larger models like vehicles and dreadnoughts. I think most will apply these markings on the Ballistus Dreadnought.
this area of the sheet is occupied by white and black numerals in the conventional sense. These can be used in any manner of ways. Often applied to shoulders and knee pads of the marines, can also be applied to vehicles and dreadnoughts.
this grouping is roman numerals. There is nothing more Warhammer 40K than roman numerals on models. It makes very little difference how or where they are used in a similar fashion as the regular roman orthographic numbers.
This last section is for some extra flavour for the space marine models. Often these kinds of marking are to denote campaign badges and honours. Might be more appropriate to use on the characters and Sternguard Veteran Squad.
That is it for this article. I hope you found this helpful and takes some of the pain out of "where do I put this?!?" on a miniature.
Thanks for reading.
